ABOUT ALIEN WORKSHOP

Alien Workshop was formed near Dayton, Ohio, in 1990 by Chris Carter, Mike Hill and Neil Blender. The independent brand built a distinct science-fiction identity through influential skate videos and riders such as Rob Dyrdek, while keeping its creative roots away from California’s traditional skate industry.

Product FAQ

Skateboard Decks FAQ

Quick answers to help you choose the right setup.
What size skateboard deck should I get?
Use your US men’s shoe size as a starting point, although comfort and skating style also matter. Based on my experience skating and selling skateboards since 2018, I generally recommend the following sizes.
For US men’s shoe size 6 and below, choose 7.75 inches or smaller. For US men’s shoe sizes 6 to 9, choose 7.75 to 8.0 inches. For US men’s shoe sizes 9 to 11, choose 8.125 to 8.25 inches. For US men’s shoe size 12 and above, choose 8.375 to 8.5 inches.
These are general recommendations rather than strict rules. Some skaters prefer a wider or narrower skateboard depending on what feels more comfortable under their feet.
What concave should I get for my skateboard deck?

Skateboard concave refers to how much the sides of the deck curve upwards. There are three types of concave and they are low, medium and high.

For beginners, I recommend starting with a low to medium concave because it usually feels comfortable and stable while learning. As you gain experience, you can replace the deck with a lower or higher concave based on your personal preference.

A higher concave makes the edges of the board feel more noticeable under your feet, which some skaters prefer for flip tricks. However, if the board feels too responsive or flips more than you want, a medium concave may give you better control.

What size skateboard trucks fit my deck?

For decks between 7.75 and 7.875 inch deck, I recommend 5.0-inch trucks. For decks between 8.0 and 8.125 inches, I recommend 5.25-inch trucks or Independent 139s. For decks between 8.25 and 8.375 inches, I recommend 5.5-inch trucks or Independent 144s. For an 8.5-inch deck, I recommend 5.75-inch trucks or Independent 149s.

Does the skateboard deck come with grip tape?

Grip tape is sold separately. However, for every skateboard deck in your cart, one sheet of grip tape automatically receives $10 off at checkout. Simply add both the deck and grip tape to your cart, and the discount will be applied automatically.

What parts do I need to build a complete skateboard?

To build a complete skateboard, you need one skateboard deck, one sheet of grip tape, one pair of trucks, four wheels, eight bearings and one set of hardware.

To make this easier, you can use my 3D Custom Skateboard Builder on the Board Customiser page. It lets you choose your deck, grip tape, trucks, wheels, bearings and hardware, then preview how your custom skateboard looks in real time before ordering.
